Sarah Parkes of Smalltown creates unique knotted works that defy tradition, pushing macramé firmly into the present and the hand crafted into high design.  Founded in 2008, Smalltown has grown into a boutique practice that creates select, made-to-order products and large scale custom knotted installations for a wide variety of private and commercial clients.
Beauty, integrity and timeless craftsmanship are at the core of Smalltown’s practice and a belief that textural and tactile pieces can enrich our spaces. Sarah believes knotting is a craft of contrasts - strong yet delicate, perfectly imperfect, detailed yet simplistic, feminine and masculine, and traditional yet contemporary. Smalltown is based in the green hills of Fish Creek, Victoria, Australia. Working from a converted shed on her farm, Sarah knots and weaves narratives of place and home into her sculptural works.
